Concluding things

It is slightly weird when a project finishes or when you change jobs. You put a lot of effort and energy into understanding how things work, getting along with the people you’re going to work with, and integrating; and then when things are over, the next day you’re no longer part of that team. It is too abrupt.

There is something “unnatural” about this process; I imagine in nature, when you join a new group this happens slowly, there is an integration phase, and when you leave a group, you can still go back and visit your friends. But work being somehow artificial, this change is too sudden. For instance, when I moved out of my house in Texas, I finished packing our stuff, took a taxi, and saw what was my house for the last time. I don’t think I’ll ever visit that street again. That is different; as much as I loved my house, that was a building. When you switch jobs, you literally are there one day, and the next day you’re not.

It is weird.
