Ask questions

A semi follow up of: ”Stop! Just ask for help!” Asking questions sometimes might feel cumbersome. Who to ask? Should I send a message to a group channel? What happens if nobody responds? What happens if they respond and I don’t know the answer.

What has been recently working for me is the following:

  1. Identify the original source/

  2. Ask the source/

  3. Then find out who was involved/

  4. Ask that person, if I can’t find them, Ifind someone related to that person, and then another.

By identifying the original source of the request I know who to ask for more details. By identifying involved parties I can get more context or a different point of view. I prefer a direct message, and even repeated messages if I can’t get an answer. It can feel a little bit embarrassing but the end goal is to resolve the problem. That is what team work is all about.
